The St. James-Assiniboia School Division is hosting Kindergarten Registration Information Evenings for parents and caregivers with children that will be entering Kindergarten in September 2024. Information Evenings will take place at catchment schools on:
- February 5, 2024 at 7 p.m. (French Immersion program)
- February 7, 2024 at 7 p.m. (English program)
Parents and caregivers with children born in 2019 are encouraged to attend one or both sessions to learn more about the registration process, Kindergarten programming options, and what to expect in the fall as children reach this important milestone. At sessions, parents will be provided with registration forms and school-specific registration instructions. Please note that French Immersion in SJASD begins in Kindergarten. No registration is required to attend Information Evenings.

Finding Your Catchment Area
If you don't know your catchment area schools, use SJASD's School Locator tool to select your street, street number, and school category. Your catchment schools will then be listed, along with school contact information.
To explore SJASD catchment areas further, visit our Early Years interactive google map, which displays school locations and catchment areas for English and French Immersion. Be sure to cross reference these results with the School Locator tool.
How to Register for Kindergarten (and Early Years for students new to SJASD)
Registration for Kindergarten (and Early Years students new to SJASD) will take place on February 9, 2024. Registration processes vary by school. Caregivers should follow the specific instructions provided by their catchment school.
Take the following steps to register:
- Determine your catchment area. This can be done via School Locator. Be sure to write down school contact information.
- Attend a Kindergarten Registration Information Evening. You will be provided with a Student Registration Form and specific instructions to register for that school. If you aren't able to attend an Evening, visit the school website to download a Registration Form and obtain registration instructions.
- Complete the Student Registration Form. If you have accessed the PDF form online, please ensure you download it before you fill it out, or the form will not save your work.
- Prepare appropriate identification. This includes:
- A Birth Certificate for your child.
- Two Proofs of Residency (such as a Manitoba Health Card, valid Manitoba Driver's License, Lease Agreement, House Title or other official document indicating address of residence).
- If your child was not born in Canada, citizenship papers or one of the following documents: Permanent Resident Card, Record of Landing, Valid Work Permit/Visa, or Valid Study Permit.
- Submit your paperwork to register your child for school. Please follow the instructions provided by your school.
Still have questions? Contact your catchment area school for further information.
Literacy Links 2024
Parents with children entering Kindergarten this fall are encouraged to sign up for Literacy Links, a FREE virtual summer literacy program that helps parents understand how to develop a positive literacy and numeracy environment in advance of Kindergarten.
The program runs from May 27 to August 19, 2024 and engages children in a wide variety of play-based and enriching learning experiences. During sessions, a literacy facilitator will demonstrate and provide hands-on activities that support early literacy and numeracy development, build fine motor skills, and create a strong connection between home and school. For more information, view this Literacy Links Pamphlet or visit the Literacy Links web page.
To register, download the registration form and email it to literacylinks@sjasd.ca, drop it off with your Kindergarten Registration Form, or at your local elementary school. Please register by May 21, 2024.
Welcome to Kindergarten Event
Families will be invited to a Welcome to Kindergarten 2024-25 experience in May or June. Schools will provide details to families after registration.
Out-of-Catchment/Out-of-Division Requests
Important: All caregivers must first register their child in their catchment area school before submitting a request to register for an out-of-catchment SJASD school.
Families may wish to express their interest in having a student attend an SJASD school that is out of their catchment area. This includes families that reside outside of Division boundaries. For information on Out-of-Catchment requests, visit our Registration information.
