January 11, 2023

Attention caregivers: Schools will reopen on August 22, 2023.MiddleSenior_Years_registration_Jan2023_webnews.png

Caregivers with a student entering grade 6 or 9 in the fall, or with a student new to the Division, should follow the following steps to register for the 2023-24 school year.

How to Register for Middle and Senior Years

SJASD families with students currently in grade 5 will receive a Middle Years' Student Registration Form from their current elementary school on January 27. Forms provided will be for the middle school within their catchment area. This form is to be returned to the elementary school no later than February 10.

SJASD families with students currently in grade 8 will receive a Senior Years' Student Registration Form from their current middle school on February 10. Forms provided will be for the high school within their catchment area. This form is to be returned to the middle school no later than February 24

For students new to SJASD middle and high schools, please take the following steps to register for school, or contact your catchment area school for further information.

  1. Determine your catchment area. This can be done via School Locator. Be sure to write down school contact information.
  2. Complete the Student Registration Form. Visit the school website to access a Student Registration Form PDF online. Please ensure you download it before you fill it out, or the form will not save your work.
  3. Prepare appropriate identification. This includes:
    • A Birth Certificate for your child.
    • Two Proofs of Residency (such as a Manitoba Health Card, valid Manitoba Driver's License, Lease Agreement, House Title or other official document indicating address of residence).
    • If your child was not born in Canada, citizenship papers or one of the following documents: Permanent Resident Card, Record of Landing, Valid Work Permit/Visa, or Valid Study Permit.
  4. Submit your paperwork to register your child for school. Please follow the instructions provided by your school online to register (select your school, then click on Parents & Community, Registration).

Still have questions? Contact your catchment area school for further information.

Grade 6 and Grade 9 Information Evenings

Students who are new to middle school or high school are encouraged to attend an in-person School Information Evening to learn more about their new school. These evenings take place after registration has occurred. For more information on middle or high schools prior to registering, visit school websites.

Information Evenings are tentatively scheduled to take place at catchment schools on:

  • April 11, 6 p.m. (Middle Years, English Program and French Immersion)
  • March 15 6 p.m. (Senior Years)

Dates and times are subject to change. Check back prior to events to confirm these details.

No registration is required to attend Information Evenings.

Finding Your Catchment Area

If you don't know your catchment area schools, use SJASD's School Locator tool to select your street, street number, and school category. Your catchment schools will then be listed, along with school contact information.

Out-of-Catchment/Out-of-Division Requests

Important: All caregivers must first register their child in their catchment area school before submitting a request to register for an out-of-catchment SJASD school.

Families may wish to express their interest in having a student attend an SJASD school that is out of their catchment area. This includes families that reside outside of Division boundaries. For information on Out-of-Catchment requests, visit our Registration page.
