The Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students who:
- Require specialized support in the educational setting due to a permanent, bilateral hearing loss in the moderate to profound range
- Are eligible for Level II or Level III funding, based on the severity of their hearing loss
- Are referred by an audiologist, physician, outside agency, E.S.S. clinican or Resource Teacher
- Our goal is to provide access to an equitable education in a mainstream setting for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing services include:
- Assessment to identify strengths and needs
- Direct and consultative intervention in tutorial, small group and classroom settings
- Inservies for teachers, support staff, classmates and community agencies on hearing loss as it pertains to education and socialization
- Services in the student's preferred language or mode: Amercian Sign Language ASL-English interpreting, oral, computerized note-taking
- Classroom adaptations: use of visuals, over-head projectors, sound proofing, amplification
